How many voice lessons do I need to be a good singer? This is the second most frequent question people ask me.
It’s a difficult question to answer. Like any musical instrument, you are always learning. A professional singer’s training takes many years and includes much crucial material to assimilate.
The best question should be, how much time does it take to hear improvement in my voice. If the student practices their exercises everyday, I would say they should hear the difference in a month. After three months, there should be definitive vocal change. Of course, if there is no practice, there is no progress.
We must not forget that the voice is part of the body and needs muscles to function well. It is crucial to train these muscles the same way an athlete would train the muscles used in their discipline. By the way, if your goal is to be a professional singer, most famous artists still see a vocal teacher or coach to support them in the practice of their craft, just as professional athletes always have trainers.
I think the question can sometimes hide a desire to become an instant star. There is no teacher that can sell you a package deal including the magic spell of celebrity. On the other hand, your teacher can advise you on contests or competitions you can participate in when they feel you are ready.
